Babauta inducted into Hall of Fame

OBP’s first inductee two years ago was Ted Parker, whose passion for helping others and for advancing important social causes earned him the award.

“For most of his life, our Babauta has been involved in many community and charitable events that have made positive impacts on the lives on hundreds, if not thousands of residents,” said Frankie Eliptico, president of Off the Beaten Path during the awarding ceremony.

Babauta is the past president of the Rotary Club of Saipan, past president of the Saipan Swim Club, served on the board of the American Red Cross, has been an assistant scout master for the Boy Scouts of America, and has had a key role in countless other organizations.

He is the current president of the Northern Marians College Foundation, where he has helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for scholarships, building improvements, and the purchase of state of the art equipment for NMC students.

He has been instrumental in the creation of Saipan Skate Park, regularly participates in island clean ups, and is an active supporter of local sporting events such as Tagaman and Exterra.

OBP’s Hall of Fame is a way of recognizing residents who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the social and cultural enrichment of the CNMI.  Those who are nominated must embody the following: interest in community service, dedication to the advancement of humanity, respect for cultural preservation, volunteerism, strong character and charisma, leadership, and altruism.

ThanksMas, was held on Saturday, Dec 5, at the Hyatt Regency Saipan to raise funds for the Autism Society of the CNMI.
