Barcinas bids goodbye to DES

He will assume his new post today as Hopwood Junior High School’s principal.

Barcinas said he was “saddened” to leave DES but at the same time “challenged” to face another endeavor in the local educational system.

He lauded the students’ parents for supporting their children and DES.

He told students not to get into trouble, and urged the teachers to work with their acting principal, Maria Kintol.

During the farewell ceremony on campus, students handed Barcinas cards and posters with messages of appreciation.

Kintol told the Variety she will pursue all the programs established by Barcinas.

“It’s not a new job for me,” she said.

As vice principal, she performed some of the principal’s tasks and responsibilities delegated to her by Barcinas.

She said her new job will be a great challenge.

She wants DES teachers to undergo more training and have more access to the use of modern technologies.

At Hopwood Junior High School, outgoing principal Cristine Masga said she is confident that Barcinas can handle his new position.

He knows how to interact with parents, help students and improve the school, she said.

Masga will be assigned to the Public School System central office, where she will work for the curriculum and instructional program.

Masga said she will continue working with Barcinas on Hopwood’s accreditation.

An accreditation team will visit the school in 2011 for the midterm evaluation and the Hopwood leadership will have to prepare to meet the many challenges in maintaining its standards, she added.
