These people end up sharing our lives for the better because of their greatness, and we deeply admire them. Great teachers have many faces. They may typically be a professor or teacher in the classroom, but often can be our family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. It makes no difference who they are, or what their profession, but great teachers all have one thing in common. They instill inside us, values, knowledge, hopes and dreams. Once they’ve been taught to us, we are changed for the rest of our lives.
The Home of the Octopus is honored and privileged to highlight the prestigious title of greatness. The Teacher of the Year for 2011 for San Antonio Elementary School is Mrs. Theresa Barro. She has been an educator for 21 years.
With in those years, she has been with San Antonio Elementary School for 18 years. There is no question Mrs. Barro loves to teach and enjoys working with children. Her passion for teaching is what motivates her, and is something she believes, that all great teachers have. Teaching brings her an incredible feeling of satisfaction knowing she is contributing positively to the future of the children.
Furthermore Theresa is a committed teacher. She goes above and beyond the time required of a typical teacher
and helps students whenever they need it. She is committed to the curriculum she uses to teach, and like her students, she is always continuing to learn more. She enjoys participating in various workshops in hopes of enhancing her profession as an educator.
Mrs. Barro understands her students better than most people. She knows where her students come from, who they are, and what direction to take them to succeed. She is very compassionate for her students. In addition, she builds a relationship with her students; relationships that consist of mutual trust and respect. This is an essential element in the learning process. She adds, “that if a student respects and trusts her teacher, she will trust and respect the message and knowledge that teacher imparts to her.”
Not only does Theresa devotes her time to the school but she also devotes her time to the community. She is member of the Cancer Society and is also a children’s teacher at her church. She participates in the annual Red Cross Walkathon, as well. In addition, she chairs various activities at SAES such as the Thanksgiving program which includes canned food-drive, used clothes and toy drive for the families in need. She also chaired the Accreditation under the Language component. She was involved with the Japanese Cultural Exchange, Beach Clean-Up, and After-School Program Tutorial. Theresa Barro exemplifies the fine qualities of a great leader.
She always goes beyond the call of duty in order to provide the very best.
As a reflection of her untiring devotion to the student of San Antonio Elementary school and the community, Mrs. Barro is a dedicated individual. She is not just a teacher; she is also a leader, a mentor, a colleague, a wife and a mother. Congratulations Theresa Barro for your distinguished service and exemplary performance as an outstanding teacher for the year 2011. Great Job! Much Success.
