“There is a right channel that they can go through if they really want to hold a fundraising drive,” he said.
The federation, he added, should also get an endorsement from the Philippine Consulate General, and present the details of the event, including its beneficiary.
Most importantly, Borja said, the fundraising derby must be conducted at the island’s only legitimate cockfight arena, which is operated by Maryann D. Calvo, in As Gonno.
Borja said it is the arena operator that will collect the money and hand it to the beneficiary of the fundraising drive.
The board is also open to a dialogue with the federation to discuss its programs, he added.
However, Borja said only the management of the cockfight arena showed up during a recent meeting.
Jimmy Pascual, the federation president, said he already met with Calvo and discussed their programs, which include “professionalizing” cockfights on island, helping the community and extending support to the less fortunate.
