Sales for used cars, for their part, showed an up and down pattern from 2004 to 2008.
The car dealers sold the highest number of brand new cars sold in 2004 — with 1,612.
This figure went down to 1,555 in 2005, 1,000 in 2006, 632 in 2007 and 595 last year.
The car dealers sold the highest number of used cars in 2007 — 469 — while 2005 posted the lowest figure in used car sales, 330.
In 2004, the three dealers sold 380 used cars, 352 in 2006, and 371 in 2008.
For the five-year period, they sold a total of 1,902 used cars.
Overall sales for both brand new and used cars for the five-year period totaled 7,296, of which 5,394 were brand new units.
In 2008, Microl Corp. sold the highest number of used cars — 141, which represented a 38 percent of the market share.
Triple “J” Motors sold 122 while Joeten Motors sold 108.
Joeten Motors is the island’s distributor of Nissan, Ford, Honda and Kia. Microl Corp. is the local distributor of Toyota and Chevrolet while Triple “J” Motors sells Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki and Mazda.
