On May 28, the Saipan and Northern Islands legislative delegation confirmed Yumul’s nomination.
Camacho said he and fellow council member Eric D. Diaz later met with Yumul.
“We congratulated him and we are looking forward working with him,” Camacho said.
Municipal council administrator Frances Muna said their office is ready to extend any assistance for the swearing-in of Yumul this week. The exact date has yet to be announced.
Camacho earlier asked Northern Islands Mayor Tobias DLC. Aldan to make his own nomination.
When Saipan Mayor Donald Flores nominated Yumul, there was still no winner in the Northern Islands mayoral election.
A third municipal council member had to be appointed because Camacho and Diaz were the only candidates for the three-member council.
In case of a vacancy, the CNMI Constitution allows the mayor to appoint a council member with the consent of the legislative delegation.
In an earlier interview, Rep. Joseph M. Palacios, R-Saipan, said he had asked the House legal counsel whether the mayors of Saipan and the Northern Islands should submit a joint or separate nomination.
But after Aldan was elected Northern Islands mayor, he expressed support for Yumul’s nomination.
