“All Continental Connection flights, which are operated by Cape Air, between Guam and Saipan have been resumed as of Tuesday, August 9, 2011,” stated Koji Nagata, director, Asia/Pacific communications for United/Continental Airlines.
Cape Air aircraft was reported to have had mechanical problems resulting in the cancellation of flights Monday.
Continental’s corporate communications representative Mary P. Torre told Variety that what transpired in the last couple of days was that the ATR aircraft Cape Air used for flights between Guam and Saipan and Rota was down and Continental had to send a Boeing 737 next-generation aircraft with 155 seats to Saipan.
“Continental Airlines went up to Saipan as a relief flight to bring back passengers to and from Guam and Saipan because Cape Air was down,” said Torre.
As of Tuesday, Cape Air started resuming flights.
Cape Air or Hyannis Air Service Inc., headquartered at Barnstable Municipal Airport in Barnstable, Massachusetts, operates flights in Micronesia as Continental Connection flights through a code share partnership with Continental Airlines.
