Igitol said their organization is holding another fundraising event in September and is accepting donations from members of the community.
The rampvan, she added, is necessary to accommodate the increasing number of persons with disabilities who need immediate transportation.
The center is coordinating with the Family Hope Center in administering the Call-A-Ride program, Igitol said.
Just recently, they conducted a bingo bonanza to raise funds for the construction of an outdoor kitchen for cooking classes that will be offered to special education students from various schools and institutions in the CNMI.
According to Igitol, an outdoor kitchen is more accessible for those in wheelchairs and can be used for social gatherings.
“It is also more traditional,” she added.
Igitol said they are also planning to conduct a training program to persons with disabilities who are 18 years old and above.
The training will focus on gardening, office work and cooking that will allow a person with disabilities to become more productive, she said.
For those who like to donate or support the center’s programs, they are encouraged to visit House 1366 on Capital Hill or call 322-4303.
