Chamber says Corporate Challenge raises over $4,200 for education

On Sunday, May 31, 14 teams competed in events which included a tug-of-war, an egg toss, a “food fear factor,” a wheel barrow race event and a heavily modified triathlon. Hundreds of family members, friends and colleagues also attended the competition at the Minatchom Atdao Pavilion in Susupe to cheer on the competitors and share in the barbeque and relaxation at the beach.

Member companies paid $300 each to sponsor five-person co-ed teams. Participating companies included Coca Cola/Glimpses Saipan, DFS Saipan Limited, Docomo Pacific Saipan, First Hawaiian Bank, Fiesta Resort & Spa, G4S Security Services, IT&E, Marianas Pacific Distributors, Inc., Marianas Cable Vision, Microl Corporation, Pacific Islands Club, Delta Management Corporation, Take Care Insurance and Triple J Corporation.

Taking honors in the competition was 1st place winner Marianas Pacific Distributors Inc, while 2nd place went to Coca Cola/Glimpses Saipan and 3rd Place went to Pacific Islands Club.

The first annual revolving trophy for the SCC Spirit Award went to Coca Cola/Glimpses Saipan for their best booth entry judged under criteria with a theme utilizing recycled materials.

Chamber president Doug Brennan said: “Two things I learned from this year’s competition; first, this may be our best use of team effort in furthering our educational interests within the chamber membership, and, without a doubt, next year we have to have some separate games for the hundreds of kids that come every year to watch the fun. The chamber thanks all those that donated and participated in this huge success.”

The chamber will present its $10,000 worth of high school student scholarships at its general membership meeting on Wednesday, June 1, at 11:30 a.m. at the Saipan World Resort.
