Braig, who is CHC’s only ears, nose and throat doctor, said his wife, Dr. Tuyet Nguyen, the resident pediatrician of the hospital, is leaving with him. They are headed to Canada.
Like Braig, Nguyen is also on leave and will be officially out of the hospital by Nov. 17.
When Nguyen leaves the hospital, its pediatric department will only have doctors on locum status.
Braig is officially leaving CHC on Nov. 30.
Nguyen, for her part, declined to comment.
Braig said both of them have been offered better jobs in Canada, and this is one of the reasons they decided to leave the island.
He also noted the uncertainties that the federalization of the CNMI immigration system may bring.
He said he wanted to meet with acting Public Health Secretary Pete Untalan who, he added, apparently does not want to talk to him.
Asked to explain his and his wife’s decision to leave CHC, Braig said the people “probably know what’s going on.”
He declined to elaborate but said he loves Saipan where he has resided for seven years now.
“There’s only so much you can take. Now it’s time for us to move on,” he said.
