Cing says Democratic Party needs to be reorganized

“I do understand that the CNMI Democratic Party today needs a lot of reorganizing and has a lot of work to do in the days ahead and this just gives me more energy,” former Sen. David M. Cing said.

He  was endorsed by the party’s central committee after the other aspirant for the party’s nomination, Saipan Sen. Luis P. Crisostimo, failed to pay the $2,500 registration fee.

“It is an honor to be able to run for this very important position and be able to represent our people in the halls of Congress,” Cing said in a statement.

He said being a Democrat is his political ideology.

His parents, he added, were also Democrats.

“Back then this party stood for the poor and the working class and it also stood up for the rights of all those whose voices could not be heard. It is through this upbringing and education that got me interested in government,” Cing said.

He said he was inspired by  President John F. Kennedy, a Democrat, who once said: “Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country.”

Cing described his 12 years of service in government as “fair” and added that he voted decisively on issues of importance to everyone in the commonwealth.

Besides Cing, the other candidates for delegate are Washington Rep. Pete A. Tenorio, former Judge Juan T. Lizama, former Commonwealth Election Commission Executive Director Gregorio C. Sablan, Department of Public Lands official John DLR. Gonzales, Saipan Municipal Council member Felipe Q. Atalig and Crisostimo, who said he will run as a “national Democrat.”
