GOVERNOR David M. Apatang on Aug. 5 appointed former Rep. Claudio “Clyde” K. Norita as the new senior policy advisor.

In his appointment letter, the governor told Norita, “It is my understanding that you are taking on this position without compensation.”

The governor said he and Lt. Gov. Dennis James Mendiola are confident that Norita will be an asset to the Commonwealth. “Your willingness to serve our people is most appreciated,” Apatang said.

In an interview on Tuesday, Norita said he is grateful to Apatang and Mendiola for granting him the opportunity to serve the Commonwealth in this capacity.

A House member in the 14th Legislature, Norita also served as Department of Public Safety commissioner and Commonwealth Ports Authority executive director. He was the first commissioner of the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, created by Public Law 18-73 on Jan. 25, 2015.
