Coalition to hold forum for IRs of FAS citizens

Irene Tantiado, Coalition of United Workers (NMI) president, yesterday said these IR spouses are asking for clarification about the effect of the federal immigration law on their status.

The FAS are the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau and the Marshall Islands.

Today, the spouses of FSM and Palau citizens will meet with human rights advocate Wendy Doromal in a forum at the Kilili Beach pavilion at 9:30 in the morning.

The forum, Tantiado said, will come up with an action plan and petition that will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

More than 100 nonresident guest workers are married to FAS citizens in commonwealth, she said.

At 7:30 in the evening, Tantiado said, the coalition will hold another forum at American Memorial park for guest workers regarding federal stimulus checks.

She said many guest workers have yet to receive their  checks that were released by the federal government last month.

The coalition has been receiving complaints  regarding the delay in the release of the checks, she added.
