Cockfighters urge Borja to act on allegations

Borja earlier said that some of the illegal cockfighters even smoke marijuana.

Pascual said Borja should refer the matter to the Department of Public Safety and provide the information law enforcers need to go after those involved in these illegal activities.

“This is a very serious matter,” Pascual said.

Their group, he added, advises members against holding illegal cockfights.

Those involved in such activities are not members of the United Cockers and Breeders Federation, Pascual said.

The group’s chairman, Jimmy Blancia, said he was surprised by Borja’s allegations.

He said the chairman of the Saipan Cockfight Board must produce evidence to clear the name of cockers and breeders who comply with the law.

“We will impose disciplinary action on our members if we learn that our federation is being affected by their illegal activities,” he said.

However, he added, they have not received any reports that any of their members or officers are conducting illegal activities.

Pascual said they welcome the formation of the Saipan Cockfight Board but “we are questioning the background and qualifications of the chairman.”

The board, he added, should remain neutral and avoid issuing sweeping statements that can damage the relationship between the cockers and the management of the Saipan Cockfight Arena.
