Cockfighters willing to work with board

The group’s chairman Jimmy Blancia said they are willing to share their rules and regulations with the government’s board headed by Juan M. Borja to uphold professionalism and sportsmanship.

“The federation is always open to suggestions. We can compare our rules and regulations with theirs and come up with a unified and concrete direction,” Blancia said.

Last week, the group’s officers and members met to discuss their draft rules and regulations that will be implemented when they hold a derby for charitable purposes.

The public information officer of the Saipan mayor’s office, Tony Benavente, said the cockfight board is now gathering suggestions for possible amendments to its rules and regulations.

Former  board member Pete Castro told Variety that the management of the cockfight arena was not doing enough to ensure the safety of their customers and the cockfight audience.

There are also complaint’s against the arena’s referees who are perceived to be “not fair.”

Castro was recently replaced by Ramon P. Crisostimo after he, Castro, decided not to extend his one-year term which expired in June.

The other member of the board is Manual C. Sablan.

The cockers group president, Jimmy Pascual, who earlier expressed dissatisfaction with the arena’s management, said they have yet to observe the performance of Crisostimo on  the board.

 “We will see,” Pascual said.

But he added that their group is always ready to cooperate with the management on policies that are not detrimental to cockers and breeders.
