Coin collectors form club

Club organizer Floyd Masga said  coin collecting is not new on island but there is  no organization for coin collectors.

“There are many collectors here but each work individually. It’s time we get together. The Coin and Currency Club will give us all a chance to learn more about the coins we are collecting,” Masga said.

“We need motivated individuals who collect collectable coins such as modern coins, U.S. silver, gold, currency and even foreign coins,” he added.

Masga said there is more to coin collection than collecting.

“A lot of the collectors don’t know how to properly store the coins, how to identify their grades and what their values are, and what valuable history lies behind each coin,” he said.

“This is also an avenue for each of the collectors to sell or trade coins. One collector may have missed some coins while others have duplicates — the club will be their link to connect with each other,” he said.

Masga started collecting coins since he was 16 years old.

“I am also encouraging beginners and those who are still planning to start collecting coins to join the club,” he said.

Beginners and those who have yet to start collecting coins can benefit if they join the club because they will be able to start on the right trail, he added.

Masga said there are guidebooks that collectors can use, but interaction with other collectors will help them understand everything much better.
