DEPARTMENT of Commerce Secretary Remedio C. Mafnas has been named the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ Member of the Month for July.

In an interview on Friday, Mafnas said she was thrilled by the recognition.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, and I am proud to represent the Marianas on a national platform,” Mafnas said.

She thanked Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang for their support and leadership.

“I look forward to continuing to serve the Marianas with integrity and passion as the Secretary of Commerce,” she added.

Mafnas was confirmed by the Senate on Aug. 8, 2024, after previously serving as acting secretary. She was appointed by the governor in November 2023.

As Commerce secretary, Mafnas leads the strategic direction of all six divisions within the department. She also concurrently serves as insurance commissioner under the department’s Banking and Insurance Section.

Prior to becoming secretary, Mafnas served as the registrar of corporations. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she spent 18 months in the private sector as a compliance administrator for Imperial Pacific International before returning to Commerce.
