Continental: No comment on shipping magnate’s lawsuit

Last month, Victor Chiongbian who owns William Lines, sued Continental Airlines in Cebu City, central Philippines, for its “failure to observe utmost diligence in carrying out its duty to carry the plaintiff safely to his destination.”

Chiongbian said he was a passenger of a Continental Airlines Manila-Koror, Palau flight.

While he was checking in at the Palau International Airport on his return flight, an employee of Continental manning the check-in counter instructed Chiongbian to transfer the contents of a 40-pound cooler he brought to a plastic container the airline provided.

He said he was also told to leave the counter with the cooler and finish transferring the contents of the cooler somewhere else.

He said nobody assisted him, a senior citizen, in carrying the cooler and transferring its contents.

While carrying the container, Chiongbian said he slipped while in the check-in area and fractured his left ring finger.

He said no one among Continental’s personnel assisted him or even gave him first aid.

He said he had to buy an ice pack to reduce the swelling of his finger and had himself admitted to the Makati Medical Center after he arrived in Manila.

He said the doctor who treated him estimated that the finger would heal in three to four months.
