Council mulls Rota library

On Rota, Gonzales said only the schools have libraries and the books are mostly textbooks and school-related books.

“If you go to Rota and you want to read books, you have nowhere to go. We need a library that can cater to the needs not only of the students but the out of school youth and the adult population of the island, too,” Gonzales said.

There is already a functional public library on Tinian.

“We will be getting in touch with the lawmakers on Rota so we can work together to make this goal become reality as soon as possible,” Gonzales said.

He believes that the establishment of a public library on Rota will also make it easier for the students there to avail of library services that are being offered on Saipan, such as the Homework Assistance Center.

“We have the resources such as technology grants and assistance, and we can apply for more grants to serve our students in the island. We want the students and the people of Rota to have as much learning resources as we have here,” Gonzales said.

The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library successfully celebrated 2010 National Library Week which ended on Saturday.
