Court modifies bail vs man in kidnap-rape case

Govendo also placed Camacho, 37, under house arrest, and ordered the defendant’s release to his brother and nephew as  third party custodians.

Chief Prosecutor Michael Ernest, who represented the government, strongly opposed the motion for bail modification filed by Camacho’s court-appointed attorney, Stephen Woodruff.

The government presented PO2 Jason Tarkong, DPS officer-in-charge of the Sex Offender Registry Office, as witness.

Govendo earlier found probable cause that Camacho may have kidnapped and sexually assaulted his victim at the Old Radar Station in As Matuis.

Camacho has been charged with false arrest, kidnapping, indecent exposure in the second degree, sexual assault in the first degree, attempted sexual assault in the first degree, and disturbing the peace of his victim in an incident that police said occurred on Feb. 23, 2011.

Police said Camacho, a convicted sex offender, brought and abused his previous victim also to the Old Radar Station in 2000.
