Court reduces bail of police officer who threatened to shoot wife

During the bail modification hearing yesterday, Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo also ordered the release of 23-year old John Kaipat Wabol Jr. to a third party custodian, but subject to several conditions.

Wabol must post $500 of the bail in cash, and the remaining $4,500 in unsecured bond.

Wabol must return to court whenever required to do so, obey all commonwealth laws and surrender his travel documents. He cannot leave the CNMI   without court permission and must stay away from all seaports and airports.

He is not allowed contact with the victim or his children.

“If you are a police officer and an alleged threat is reported involving your issued firearm, this is a concern,” Govendo told the defendant.

“You are issued a firearm not to threaten your wife, girlfriend or anybody,” he added.

Govendo set the preliminary hearing for March 11 and the arraignment for March 23.

Wabol was arrested by authorities after he threatened to shoot his wife with his service firearm in Dandan last week.
