TO reduce its utility costs, the Commonwealth Ports Authority board of directors is seeking an “arrangement” with the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.

According to CPA Board Chair Ramon A. Tebuteb, they set an appointment with the CUC board two weeks ago, but it was canceled because CUC Board Chair Janice A. Tenorio was not feeling well.

Tebuteb was responding to CPA Vice Chair Steve Mesngon, who asked if CUC had considered their proposal to offset CPA’s monthly bill with the cost of CUC’s use of CPA’s facilities.

“Did we happen to make that arrangement already? Or it’s still up in the air? Or are we even communicating with CUC?” Mesngon asked Tebuteb during a special board meeting on Dec. 4, 2024.

Tebuteb said he had set a meeting with CUC officials to discuss “very critical items” that he hopes will benefit CPA in the future.

“That meeting was canceled, unfortunately, but I want to continue to pursue that,” Tebuteb said.

Mesngon said CPA’s management should communicate with the CUC board, and “we should continue…that dialogue so we can make that arrangement.”

In previous board meetings, Mesngon mentioned that CPA properties, including those on Saipan and Rota, have been used by CUC for water wells and other infrastructure.
