Saipan airport will be allotted $16.6 million for the continuation of its seven projects: runway rehabilitation, $5.3 million; aircraft rescue and fire fighting facility expansion, $4.1 million; road improvement project, $2.3 million; development of a drainage system, $1.8 million; terminal modernization plan, $1.8 million; flight information display system,$1.2 million; and procurement of runway sweeper, $185,000.
On Tinian, the ongoing FAA-funded airport projects will receive $11.7 million.
This amount includes the $6.5 million for the relocation of the ARFF facility, $1.8 million each for the airport security access system and the construction of an apron taxi lane, as well as $1.4 million for the replacement of the fence at the airport’s security perimeters.
On Rota, two airport projects are scheduled for completion this fiscal year and will get $4.3 million from the FAA: aviation fuel farm facility, $2.5 million; and the security access system, $1.8 million.
Projects for FY 2010
CPA expects to get $30.1 million from the FAA in FY 2010.
Saipan will receive $23.1 million for two projects: the 1,300-foot runway extension, $20.9 million; and the commuter apron expansion, $2.2 million.
Tinian will get $2.8 million in FAA grant for its aviation fuel farm facility.
There are two other FAA-funded projects on Rota that are expected to commence in FY 2010: the installation of the instrument landing system, $3.8 million; and the procurement of a rapid intervention vehicle, $350,000.
