Crisostimo: NMI delegate should focus on economy

In an interview on Wednesday, Senator Crisostimo said the CNMI “hungers” for economic progress.

He said the delegate should not just sit in the U.S. Congress but also find ways to improve the local economy.

Crisostimo said he knows that all the candidates in this historic election have a common interest — and that is to serve the CNMI people.

But, he added, the delegate’s job should be “all about the bottom- line: jobs.”

“Will we have jobs for our people in the days to come? Can we assure that the college graduates, the people returning from the military service and our professionals coming into the CNMI can have jobs?” Crisostimo asked.

A long-term economic plan and strategy are very important, he said, and a delegate should help develop business opportunities that will create more jobs for the local people.

He said the delegate should ask the federal government to provide economic assistance to the CNMI whose people, he added, are  now facing uncertainty.

Crisostimo said expanding business opportunities in the CNMI is not only for foreign investors but also for the local people.

The CNMI, he added, can focus on the quality of its agricultural produce and helping local farmers prepare for the expected growth in demand due to military buildup on Guam.

Once elected, Crisostimo said he will work with the U.S. Department of Defense.
