Cruz asks Obama to include Guam in Asia trip

The president postponed twice his visit to Guam, much to the dismay of island residents.

A planned March visit was moved to June, which was also  postponed.

“We were looking forward to an organized public event where you would have spoken to both military personnel and members of the civilian community,” Cruz wrote to Obama on Friday.

Cruz noted the significance a of the president visiting Guam, given the planned transfer of over 8,000 Marines and their dependents from Okinawa to this American territory.

“Some of the military’s proposed actions will cause irreparable harm to much of what we on Guam hold dear,” Cruz saud,

“I sincerely hope that you will visit Guam in November and engage our people in discussions on the impact that this massive military buildup will have on our island and our people,” he added.

Cruz is waiting for the announcement of Obama’s full November travel itinerary that will indicate whether a trip to Guam is included.
