Cub Scout Pack 913 holds 3rd Annual Cubmobile Derby

The cubmobiles are similar to soap box cars.

They are relatively small, the perfect size for a Cub Scout, have no motor, and coast down the gentle slope of the road.

Each of the Pack’s nine Cubs, split into two teams, participated in the painting and naming their cubmobiles.

The five-manned team named Speed Racers consisted of Cub Drivers Amon McGuire, Logan Mister, Noah Santa Maria, Elias Lowe, and Cyrus Rose.

The four- manned, equally as spirited team of Fast and Furious boasted Cub Drivers Ben Esplin, Carl Jericho Lambat, Cole Chambers, and Spencer Dickinson.

The cubmobiles are raced down a gently sloped road on Capital Hill, with the Cubs steering the cubmobiles with their feet.

The Cubs race the cars down the slope several times each, with times being recorded, and team times combined for a grand total.

The team with the fastest overall time is awarded individual trophies for each driver.

The winning cubmobile team for 2010 was Speed Racers.

The Derby is followed by a Pack Meeting where the Cubs are awarded their advancements and awards earned since the previous Pack Meeting.

After the awards, breakfast snacks are shared by all.

The spectators always add a flavor of excitement to the races, and sometimes are allowed to test run the cars after the Derby.

This year was no different with mothers and older siblings trying out the cubmobiles.

Cub Scout Pack 913, which is chartered by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holds weekly Den meetings and four Pack meetings a year which showcase recognized Cub Scout events such as the Raingutter Regatta, the Pinewood Derby, the Father/Son Cakebake and Cubmobile Races.
