CUC: 8 to 10-hour power outage this month

The power outage is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 14 and Muna said “it will not affect the whole island.”

In addition to Aggreko’s 15 megawatts, Power Plant 1 is generating 8.5 megawatts of while Power Plant 4, which is managed by the Pacific Marine and Industrial Corp., is generating 14.7 megawatts.

One of the engines of PMIC was down for a regular preventive maintenance so it only produced 12 megawatts yesterday.

Its contract with CUC states that PMIC must produce at least 10.1 megawatts.

Muna said the current total power available for production is 40 megawatts, which is sufficient to satisfy the peak load but with nothing in reserve.

CUC, he added, has yet to finalize the scheduled power outage and is coordinating with Aggreko.

“They’re making sure their equipment is continuously 100 percent operational so the maintenance is necessary,” he said.

CUC is paying Aggreko over $500,000 a month for its generators.
