CUC Executive Director Antonio Muna yesterday morning called for an emergency meeting with all deputy directors, operation managers and other top officials of the agency to discuss disaster preparation.
CUC’s power division operation manager and public information officer Gary Camacho said the frontline workers in the three divisions would be on double-shift duty.
CUC’s hotline numbers 235-0282 and 235-2282 will receive calls, 24 hours, Camacho said.
“And we will continue receiving advisories from [the Emergency Management Office],” he added.
On Tinian, CUC deputy director Edward Quichocho told Variety that their typhoon response team had already secured the power facilities.
All equipment, including generators, had been checked, and sufficient fuel supply was secured, he added.
Every four hours, they would report to the CUC main office on Saipan.
Yesterday morning, CUC deputy director for water and wastewater Bruce Megarr said they checked all the pump stations and generators.
He said they coordinated with the Saipan mayor’s office in providing potable water to members of the community who were expected to request water supply during an emergency.
“All generators are being fired to make sure they work and it’s been going on for the last 24 hours,” he said.
CUC water division operation manager Mariano Iglecias said all divisions were making sure that their facilities were in running condition.
After any calamity, Iglecias said they will focus on power restoration in affected areas, while the water and wastewater crewmembers assess any possible damage and conduct debris-clearing operations.
