CUC certified water operators undergo training

The training is for certified water operators, according to Mariano Iglecias, CUC water and wastewater manager.

Recently, the Mariana Islands Water Operator Association hosted the continuing education training for certified water operators.

The organization discussed the compliance of the local water systems with the Homeland Security Act of 2002, the operation of filters, and compliance with the surface water treatment rule.

Iglecias said the certified operators are responsible for the daily operational activities of the water systems, which include  distribution and treatment.

This, he added, will ensure that all daily operation and maintenance activities of the water systems are completed in accordance with acceptable public health practices and water industry standard.

He said certified water operators have to perform water quality monitoring, maintain adequate records, and take follow-up action, if necessary, to comply with state and federal drinking water regulations.

They also implement preventive maintenance programs, inspect treatment and other system components, he added.

Those who underwent the training were Iglecias, Bernard Keremius, Alan Lebria, Oscar Sablan, Melvin Tudela, Adrian Torre, Lauro Manacop, Glen Dikrito, Glem Villagomez, and William Anthony Deleon Guerrero.

The training was conducted at the Pacific Islands Club.

The Marianas Islands Water Operator Association is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to provide and promote training and other career development opportunities for operators and managers of environmental utilities in the CNMI.
