The power interruptions are the result of the ongoing repair and maintenance in the distribution and transmission system, he added.
Over 99 percent of power disruptions in the last four months were attributed to the failures in the distribution system, he said.
“Our challenge now is to meet with the federal permit requirements, timelines and detailed specification of the stipulated orders,” Malae said.
CUC maintains at least 17 megawatts of reserve capacity every month since Sept. 2009, he added.
CUC generates 43 to 45 megawatts from Power Plants 1 and 2, he said.
Malae noted that in Jan. 2009, Saipan’s total power generation was 24 megawatts only until it reached 43 and 57 megawatts when Aggreko was supplying power.
When Aggreko left, CUC continued to generate from 57 to 59 megawatts every month, a CUC report shows.
These include the additional 14 megawatts from Power Plant 4, which is administered by the Pacific Marine and Industrial Corp.
