This “progress,” he added, was noted by Federal District Court Judge James Carter.
Malae said Carter was also pleased that CUC finally has a deputy executive director.
Last month, Alan Fletcher was hired for the post that had been vacant since March 2010.
Malae, however, said one of the five candidates for certified water or wastewater operators refused the Rota assignment and has returned to the U.S.
The other stipulated order positions that are already filled up include the chief finance officer, Charles Warren; chief engineer, Capt. Robert Lorenz; water and wastewater associate engineer, Cmdr. Kenneth Esplin; and executive director, Malae.
CUC is yet to hire a replacement for technical manager for oil William Sword who has left the island. His position is responsible for overseeing all oil spill prevention, including the cleanup of the Tank 104.
The stipulated order positions were required by the federal court to ensure CUC’s compliance with U.S. standards.
