CUC taps WIA for line clearing operation

CUC power division manager Gary P. Camacho said  WIA has been providing the utilities agency with qualified people.

Last month, CUC’s water and wastewater division also asked WIA to assign four of its clients to assist in collecting laboratory samples.

CUC wants to hire two of them, said Bruce Megarr, the deputy director for the water and wastewater division.

WIA is an employment and education training program under the Office of the Governor.

It aims to meet the needs of businesses, job seekers and  those who want to further their careers.

Since last week, Camacho said WIA and DPW  have been conducting line clearing activities in Susupe and Chalan Kanoa.

“This  operation can reduce field origin power outages significantly,” Camacho said.

He said CUC dispatched two teams comprising eight crew members, with two bucket trucks to clear power lines and posts of tree branches and other unwanted illegal structures.

CUC will continue its line clearing operations in other areas of the island as part of its maintenance efforts, Camacho said.

He asked the members of the community to report to CUC any power line and electric post obstructions.
