He said these problems are still manageable but unscheduled power outages will make them worse.
Megarr said they always prioritize water leak repairs and low pressures so that these won’t affect the entire water system.
Sometimes, he added, CUC water maintenance personnel will initiate needed repair work without waiting from the different agencies that have installations in area were a damaged water system has been detected.
“Instead of our crew standing by waiting for the phone company to mark their lines, we can take a blue spray paint and outline the area that we need to dig, then we can leave and do something else,” he said.
Megarr said they usually need permission from the Department of Public Work and other entities with underground structure like power and phone companies before CUC can perform a repair job.
CUC’s repair and maintenance team, he added, is “not dependent on [other entities], and they are not dependent on us.”
In a separate interview, Alan Lebria, water operation manager, said if power outage occurs in a certain area, water sources will be affected and it will cause some time to restore the water supply.
Water stations are run by electricity, he added.
Lebria sees the need for consistent preventive maintenance on CUC’s power and water system so that the delivery of their services will not be interrupted.
