Yumul urges Fitial to return $540K to GTC

House Resolution 16-73 states that although the construction of soccer field will benefit the community, the renovation of dilapidated classrooms at G.T. Camacho Elementary School is more important at the moment.

The resolution is requesting Fitial to reconsider his decision and allow the Northern Marianas Housing Corp. to provide GTC with  $540,000 in federal funds.

NMHC, which manages federal community block grants, earlier approved GTC’s grant application.

But Fitial rescinded NMHC’s decision and re-appropriated the funds for the Koblerville soccer field project.

GTC’s termite-infested classrooms may endanger the students’ health and safety, the resolution stated. “It is not fair to continue to expose our children to such risks when there is an immediate solution readily available,” the Board of Education earlier said.
