The Division of Environmental Quality’s goal is to ensure that storm drains are free of debris. With the use of wire brushes, trash bags, adhesives and markers, DEQ personnel cleaned the area around storm drains and marked them.
Other government agencies like the Department of Public Works and Coastal Resources Management are the main partners of DEQ for this project.
Jihan Buniag, DEQ education and outreach coordinator, said water from the storm drains are untreated and they go straight to the ocean. She said they want to educate the community “about the impact of storm water pollution and storm drains.”
“The Garapan storm drain marking aims to protect our waters by helping our community identify storm drains around the area and how we are contributing toward polluting our waters,” she added.
