Directory of traditional healers, medicinal plants

The launching will begin at 3 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m.

At the launching, which is open to the public, the guests will have an opportunity to meet some of the traditional healers featured in the directory.

This directory is the first of its kind in the CNMI and in it the healers — at least 44 of them from Rota, Tinian and Saipan — were given the opportunity to share their  knowledge and experiences. The directory is  written in the three official languages of the CNMI — Carolinian, Chamorro, English.

The directory also contains color pictures of more than 100 medicinal plants in the CNMI.

The directory is an  eight and a half by eleven hard-cover book and has 730 pages.

Directories are available for sale during the launching.

The directory is a product of the IÅN/ASF’s Administration for Native Americans grant project.

In addition to the ANA grant funding, the printing of the book was made possible, in part, by Marianas Public Land Trust, Sen. Maria Frica T. Pangelinan, Reps. Ramon A. Tebuteb, Justo S. Quitugua, and Edward T. Salas.

Launching for the directory on Tinian is scheduled for the following Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Tinian Youth Center, 10 a.m. Launching for the directory on Rota will also be in September and the date will be announced later.
