In an unsigned statement, the NMI Democratic Party said now is the time to recruit those who are unhappy with the dismal results of the leadership provided by Republican and Covenant officials.
“There is no sign of progress in sight so we must unite and recruit others who share our concerns in order to finally rebuild this once thriving group of islands we call home. The choice to change is yours. Please join us,” the NMI Democratic Party said.
Instead of focusing on casinos as a solution, the NMI Democratic Party said “we should be realistic and focus more on bringing in positive types of investments. Investments that will help, instead of hurt the people of the CNMI. Investments such as a private hospital, shopping mall, university, or the military buildup.”
But it appears that the CNMI Republican Party totally agrees with its new president, Gov. Benigno Fitial
“They like Fitial’s policies and governance so much that they made him the president of their party,” the NMI Democratic Party said.
“The Retirement Fund is in danger. The government has to shut down every Friday. Government workers are not even being paid on time. The governor has been abusing his power to enrich himself and his supporters. More businesses are shutting down. More buildings are being abandoned.
Tourism is not doing good. CUC is overcharging customers. DPS is now saying it is broke. More CNMI residents are leaving the islands in order to survive,” the part said.

The party used to be one of the two major political groups in the CNMI. But after it split, once again, in 1997, most of its members have either joined the GOP or the Covenant Party which was founded by Fitial.
