The islandwide power outage occurred at around 3:01 p.m., lasting about an hour and a half. Perez said attempts to restore power began immediately with power being restored in the Macheche and Leo Palace Resort areas first.
For several hours, communication was disrupted all over the island, as radio stations were without power, as well as government agencies which had a difficult time in sending and receiving correspondence.
About 60 percent of the island’s power was restored as of 6:30 p.m.
The downed static line caused a fault within the switchyard, Perez said, and caused some breakers to isolate. The breakers were servicing Cabras 1, 2, 3 and 4, which were all online at the time.
But Perez wanted to make clear that the breakers isolating as a reaction to the line fault is exactly what’s supposed to happen to protect the generators.
