DPS: No. of vehicular crashes rising

THE Department of Public Safety will start conducting “massive” traffic enforcement operations due to the rising number of vehicular crash incidents occurring on the island this year.

Acting DPS spokeswoman Rose Ada yesterday said that the department will go after aggressive drivers to prevent crashes and injuries.

Ada said there will be speed laser detectors, sobriety and seatbelt checkpoints.

“Our concern is the fact that summer is here— schools are out and we have young drivers out there. There’s quite a few reckless drivers. We are going to try prevent crashes,” she said.

Ada said statistics show that so far this year there are already three fatalities involving crashes—two auto-pedestrian cases and one auto-ran off incident.
