DPS: Tight budget limits response to non-emergency calls

“Right now the CNMI funding is very, very short, so we would limit our responds to non-emergency calls. But, if needed be at any scene or incident the first responder would make that decision to call additional resources or not,” said David in an e-mail to Variety.

He  explained that emergency responders who arrive at the scene can “do an assessment and then decide”  if he  needs more units in the area and if he will make a request for assistance.

A witness to the brush fire at the back of Kagman Elementary School on Wednesday said: “Why is it that when a school calls 911 and says they have a fire, why aren’t all emergency services dispatched to help? One would think if ‘fire’ and ‘school’ are said in the same sentence that is something to take seriously, even if it is just a small brush fire.”
