Division of Technical Services Director Joe Inos said these projects are additional classrooms and facilities for Rota Junior High School, the rehabilitation of the East Harbor and the renovation of the fire station’s roof.
Inos said the Rota Junior High School project started last year and includes a classroom, a new science laboratory, a bigger library, restrooms and a locker room.
The project costs $875,000.
The East Harbor Rehabilitation project, which costs $2.4 million, has been continuously delayed by bad weather, Inos said.
But once completed next month, the project will give fishermen and tourists easy access to one of the island’s major tourist spots.
A primary service launching area for fishermen and tourists, the East Harbor in the past had been a big help for Rota residents until it was destroyed by a typhoon years ago. Since then, fishermen and tourists had to travel all the way to West Harbor.
Sheet piles made of steel plates, latter railings, a ponding basin, a concrete swale and paved parking stalls were constructed to make the newly rehabilitated harbor strong enough to withstand a typhoon, Inos said.
The fire division project, Inos said, costs $189,000.
It involves the replacement of the dilapidated tin roof of the Rota fire station with concrete.
The fire station has been sitting idle due to its damaged roof, Inos said.
Once the project is completed, Rota fire personnel who have been using the Department of Public Safety office, can finally move back to their station.
All the three projects are located in Songsong village.
