Juan T. Camacho of the Emergency Management Office said the workshop will have two sessions — the first on July 13 is for the government and non-government agencies that are part of the response action team.
The second session on July 14 is for the business sector, hotels, media representatives, and other government and non-government agencies that cannot make it to the first session.
“This is an important workshop especially considering the location of our island, and we want everybody to be prepared so they will know what to do,” Camacho said.
The course module topics for the workshop include hazard assessment, what a tsunami is, tsunami hazard to the community, warning, reaching out to the communities, reducing the tsunami’s impact on a community, responding to local and distant tsunamis, responding effectively to save lives, and the difference of responses for local versus distant tsunamis.
Camacho said seating is limited up to 50 for each session so we would like those who are interested to join to confirm your attendance today, July 9.
He said two speakers will be flying in from Hawaii for the workshop — one from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center and one from the International Tsunami Information Center in Hawaii.
Camacho said the workshop is free. To register or for more information, contact Camacho at at 322-9528/8001, or e-mail [email protected].
