“This is one of our projects to share with the community,” he added, as he expressed confidence they can complete the project during his one-year term.
When De Guzman and the new set of MAFEA officers were inducted on Sept. 26, they promised that their association will continue to serve the community.
He said since the formation of MAFEA in 1995, they have been very active in community activities.
The group, which comprises mostly professionals in the construction business, will also conduct a special course on plan reading, de Guzman said.
“We need to teach others in the construction business, especially the construction workers, to upgrade their skills,” he said.
The course will run for four sessions and it may start by early next year, he said, adding that the Philippine Oversea Labor Office will arrange the venue of the classes and facilitate the enrolment of participants.
MAFEA will also continue to conduct fund-raising activities, cleanup campaigns and launch a skills development contest.
MAFEA was able to generate $389 recently to help support the wife of Alex Matubis, a guest workers and MAFEA member who has been missing since July.
De Guzman said they may hold a lantern-making contest in December to encourage the development of designing skills.
There are 75 MAFEA members on Saipan and 75 percent of them are either licensed engineers or architects.
