Ex-Corrections officer charged with inappropriate conduct

A FORMER Department of Corrections officer has been charged in federal court with engaging in sexual contact with a person in official detention.

Attorney Richard Miller was appointed to represent the defendant, Aesha Debrum Sablan.

Initially, District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona scheduled a change of plea hearing for May 30 following a request from the prosecutor, Assistant U.S. Attorney Garth Backe.

However, on May 31, in a stipulation filed by the prosecutor and defense attorney, the parties requested the judge to continue the change of plea hearing to June 3, 2025, at 9 a.m., which the court granted.

According to the information filed against the defendant, “between sometime in 2022 — the exact date being unknown — and on or about Feb. 7, 2024, Aesha Debrum Sablan in a prison, institution, and facility in which persons are held in custody by direction of and pursuant to a contract and agreement with the head of any federal department or agency, did knowingly engage in sexual contact with another person…who was at the time in official detention and under the defendant’s custodial, supervisory, and disciplinary authority in violation of 18 U.S.C. 2244(a)(4).”

No additional information about the defendant or the incident was available as of press time Sunday evening.
