Two weeks ago, Manglona requested Atalig to set up a special account for the $100,000 appropriated by Rota Local Law 21-2, which Gov. Ralph DLG Torres signed on Feb. 24.
The Rota Island Specialty Crop Association or RISCA is a non-profit group that aims to assist local fishermen and farmers on Rota.
Manglona told the Finance secretary that “now, more than ever, we should promote our local agriculture and fishing industry.”
“The Covid-19 crisis has brought renewed attention to not only the critical importance of food production but also to the economic system of our small island,” the senator said. “Aside from food, agriculture and fishing activities also provide employment opportunities to many of our people. We thank the officers and members of RISCA for their vision and contribution in this endeavor,” he added.
