Fitial, Demapan ink probation week proclamation today

Probation officer John Peter D. Del Rosario yesterday said the proclamation signing set for 9 a.m. will mark the 9th year of the celebration on Saipan. He added that a separate proclamation signing will be conducted for Rota on July 22 and Tinian for July 23.

He said that this is the second year for Rota and Tinian to celebrate probation week.

“This event is to give recognition to the parole and probation officers serving the CNMI,” Del Rosario said.

2009 Probation/Parole Officers Week committee chairman Gregory F. Arriola said that throughout the week, various community correction agencies and other agency service providers working with the Probation office will be displaying brochures and other information at the lobby of the House of Justice in Susupe.

“We would like to stress the theme for this year which is ‘A Force for Positive Change’, Arriola said.

The proclamation will focus on the community corrections as an essential part of the justice system, and that corrections professionals are responsible for supervising adult and juvenile offenders in the community.

It will also stress on the role of corrections professionals as trained individuals who provide services and referrals for offenders, as professionals who promote prevention, intervention and advocacy, and advocate community and restorative justice.
