The money comprised $1 million from the Garapan revitalization plan and $200,000 from the Kagman wastewater project.
The notification for the reprogrammed funds has been received by the Public School System whose officials have already met with the governor and his CIP coordinator, Vicky Villagomez.
Board of Education member Marylou Ada, chairwoman of the CIP committee, said the $1.2 million will be used in addressing the termite-infestation and electrical upgrades of all public schools.
PSS earlier requested the governor to reprogram $8.2 million for school building repairs and renovations.
This request remains pending.
The reprogrammed $1.2 million will also fund the repair of two classrooms at San Vicente Elementary School and the construction of a building at Garapan Elementary School for the use of kindergarten and first grade students.
Currently, all kindergarten sessions and some classes for first graders are being held at MIHA housing because the school has not enough classrooms on campus.
Ada told the board that a survey among GES parents is being conducted to get their inputs on whether they prefer the new building to have one or two floors.
Work for the San Vicente classrooms has also started, Ada said during a special meeting of the board.
To realize some savings, it was decided that in-house school support staffers and maintenance will undergo training to avoid future expenditures on electrical and plumbing upgrades.
