Ruth Coleman of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Health Administration for the Pacific Island Health Care System yesterday told the Variety yesterday that most of the CNMI offices and agencies flew their flags at half mast every December 7, mainland date, which is already Dec. 8 here.
Coleman said that no special events are usually held in the CNMI for the Pearl Harbor commemoration but all events are held in Hawaii.
“We may not hold activities here, but raising our flags at half mast is our heartfelt gesture that today we continue to remember those who lost their lives at the Pearl Harbor bombing, and we will continue to remember them in the years to come. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten,” Coleman said.
In Hawaii, surviving veterans join the rest of over the country in holding separate ceremonies to remember the 2,390 Americans who died in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
