NMI spends $61M ARRA funds

Camacho said this amount is expected to go up in the fourth quarter reporting period which starts in January when the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund grants from the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs are slated to be closed out.

The Recovery.gov showed that $119.3 million in ARRA money has been awarded to the CNMI but less than that amount has actually been received.

Camacho explained that aside from the money awarded to the central government directly, there are also funds awarded to the autonomous agencies.

IT&E, for example, was awarded $8 million and the Sandy Beach Homes Project received $28 million.

With regards to status of the ARRA funds awarded to the autonomous agencies, Camacho could not provide a figure because “we have no direct control over those funds and cannot comment on their expenditures.”

Camacho also said that IPS does not expect to receive more ARRA funds beyond the respective close-out dates for each grant.

The only grant that runs through FY2013 is the one awarded to the Division of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.

The Recovery.gov showed that the Office of the Governor was awarded the biggest ARRA funds: $44.4 million, followed by $29.3 million and $13.6 million awarded to Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Islands and $8.7 million to Commonwealth Utilities Corp.
