“The delivery of services will be slower but definitely we will continue to provide them,” he told Variety.
The remaining employees will have to “multi-task,” he added.
It was Gov. Benigno R. Fitial who removed the 12 full-time employees, saying that the mayor’s office employs “too many” personnel.
He said the mayor also continues to hire heavy equipment operators despite the lack of equipment.
But Flores said since he assumed office in January, they were able to repair and recondition 10 vehicles and heavy equipment of the mayor’s field office.
Northern Islands Mayor Tobias Aldan also expressed his concern about the full-time employees assigned to his office.
Like Flores, Aldan is not a member of the governor’s Covenant Party.
Before, Aldan said, there were 15 personnel at the Northern Islands mayor’s office.
Now there are 11 although the governor promised to add two more.
Dwayne Davis, the mayor’s executive secretary, said they need more personnel as part of their plan to resettle the Northern Islands.
The plan, he said, is to encourage former residents to return to the Northern Islands and prepare for the homestead project.
